I do not think there has been any functional additions. I think what has occurred in the interim period between the movement from Nik Software => Google Software => DxO, is the updating of underlying libraries for compatibility and use in 64bit computing. There is almost no additional functionality in the latest version of the Nik Software plugins from DxO. For those who seek a host of options, there are many programs which are easier to use, many of which can also process raw files. There probably are not much in the way of new customers to draw upon. If they don’t add real value, there isn’t much incentive to buy. If too few buy in, there isn’t enough to support development. The facts that they do not offer a discounted upgrade path and are not clear about what you get when upgrading are troubling. Second is that they are keeping the tool alive as the OS and support software evolves.
First is that they might be motivated to improve the tool. But by the time I am launching SEP to use the I-point tool, it is less hassle to use the tools in Adobe.īut, if I still found the tools useful, I would be considering the DXO option for a couple reasons. I can make similar enough selections using other methods, but I would be happy if Adobe or Phase licensed that technology. The u-point technology is quite nice and intuitive to use.
I stopped using the programs at a certain point as my skills improved and there were no longer things I couldn’t achieve as well or better in Photoshop.
